## Synopsis

The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin (1954-1959) is an American family western series that aired on ABC for five seasons and 164 episodes. Created for children and families, it follows Rusty (Lee Aaker), a boy orphaned in an Indian raid and raised by the soldiers at Fort Apache, a US Cavalry outpost. Lieutenant Rip Masters (James Brown) leads the post, while veteran actor Joe Sawyer and Rand Brooks provide support among the garrison. Rusty and his German shepherd Rin Tin Tin, who helps the soldiers keep order, carry most of the action, with each thirty-minute episode built around a fresh frontier problem that the pair resolve through bravery and loyalty. The series is set in the 1870s American West, a sunlit frontier of dusty trails, wooden forts and open desert. Its tone is wholesome, earnest and warm, with a clear moral center and a focus on a surrogate family forged between a lonely boy, his dog and the men who protect them. Fans of Lassie, The Lone Ranger and Gunsmoke will find the same blend of frontier adventure, loyal animal companionship and old-fashioned television heroism.
