## Synopsis

Astro Boy (1963-1966) is a Japanese black and white animated science fiction series created for Fuji TV, adapted from Osamu Tezuka's manga and produced by Tezuka Productions and Mushi Production. Set in a futuristic year 2000, it follows the robot Astro Boy, built by Dr. Boyton in his dead son's image, who is disowned when he fails to replace the child. Befriended by the scientist Dr. Packadermus J. Elefun of the Institute of Science, Astro Boy uses super strength, rocket-powered flight and a selfless heart in a never-ending crusade against evil. The engine of the series is simple: each episode pits the gentle robot against villains, monsters and cruel humans, and the hero's kindness wins out. The show runs as a single season of 193 standalone episodes, an early landmark of anime whose optimistic, wondrous tone and themes of acceptance and belonging make it a foundational touchstone of the tradition. Fans of Doraemon, Mazinger Z and The Jetsons will find resonance in its warm family adventure and retro futurism, a classic piece of Japanese television that remains a gentle, hopeful watch for children and adults alike.
