## Synopsis

Voltaire High (2021) is a French period drama series created by Marie Roussin for Prime Video, a limited run of eight episodes that was canceled after its first season. Set in 1963, the story follows a provincial high school that admits girls and boys together for the first time, and the ensemble includes teacher Paul Bellanger (Pierre Deladonchamps), his colleague Camille Couret (Nina Meurisse), and students such as Yves Lamazière (Enzo Monchauzou) and Ahmed Belkacem (Adil Mekki), with Maud Wyler and Meylie Vignaud among the principal cast. The engine of each episode is the friction of a conservative institution adjusting to mixed classrooms, where rules about romance, friendship and reputation collide with teenage curiosity and the anxieties of faculty. Shaped as a single continuous school year, the show moves through classroom scenes, corridor gossip and after-hours tensions in a French town shaped by postwar change. The tone is warm, witty and gently nostalgic, with a current of romantic longing and social unease running beneath the comedy. Viewers who enjoy Sex Education and the period texture of Mad Men will find a similar blend of youthful romance and generational change.
