## Synopsis

The Nightmare Room (2001-2002) is an American children's horror anthology created for The WB, adapted from the R.L. Stine book series and built around the author himself, played by James Avery, who introduces each self-contained episode. Across a single season of thirteen roughly twenty-one minute episodes, unrelated characters, mostly teenagers and young adults, stumble into paranormal situations involving cursed objects, strange encounters and supernatural mischief. Principal guest performers include Amanda Bynes as Danielle Warner, Justin Berfield as Josh Ryan and Ken Foree as Coach, though each story is largely its own world. Its engine is the classic anthology loop of a character crossing a line, then facing a frightening consequence that delivers a cautionary punchline. The tone is spooky and playful rather than truly disturbing, with fantasy horror kept gentle enough for younger viewers. Shape and scale are modest: a single season of short standalone tales with no continuing arc, set in contemporary American towns and suburbs. Fans of Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Tales from the Crypt will find the same mix of eerie stories, moral payoffs and Halloween-flavored scares, suited to a family viewing evening with a thrilling but safe edge.
