## Synopsis

The Case Study of Vanitas (2021-2022) is a Japanese anime series created by a BONES studio production for Tokyo MX and other regional broadcasters, adapted from a manga. Set in 19th-century Paris, it follows young vampire Noé (voiced by Kaito Ishikawa), who is drawn into an uneasy partnership with Vanitas (voiced by Natsuki Hanae), a human doctor who carries a mysterious Book of Vanitas and promises a cure for vampires. The engine of the series is Noé's struggle to decide whether trusting such a dangerous ally is worth the risk, while the pair navigate a city of hidden supernatural threats. Each episode blends gothic mystery with steampunk-tinged action, with a self-contained ensemble of vampires, humans and hunters orbiting the central pair. Jeanne (Inori Minase) and Dominique (Ai Kayano) give the story additional emotional weight. The single 24-episode season is a serialized, character-driven story rather than a case-of-the-week format. The tone is brooding and atmospheric, with moments of dark humour and melancholy, and the series will appeal to viewers who enjoy Hellsing Ultimate, Black Butler and Castlevania for their blend of vampire lore and Victorian-era intrigue.
