## Synopsis

Wakefield (2021) is an Australian psychological mystery drama series created by Kristen Dunphy for ABC TV. Rudi Dharmalingam plays psychiatric nurse Nik Katira, who works at Wakefield, a facility perched on the edge of Australia's spectacular Blue Mountains. Geraldine Hakewill plays Dr. Kareena Wells, a clinician whose work sits close to his, while Mandy McElhinney and Felicity Ward fill out the ward's staff and patients. The engine of the show is a quiet paradox: Nik's patients are getting better, and he is getting worse. Each episode moves through the rhythms of daily ward life, group sessions, medication rounds and private consultations, while the unease grows beneath the routine. The single season of eight hour-long episodes is one continuing story rather than a case of the week. Its tone is melancholic and claustrophobic, with dread that builds slowly and a mood that keeps the viewer uncertain about what is real. The natural landscape of the mountains frames the isolation of the facility. Fans of Shutter Island, In Treatment and Twin Peaks will find resonance in its blend of mental health drama and psychological mystery. The show is a compact, unsettling watch for viewers who like fragile minds and quiet menace.
