## Synopsis

A Couple of Cuckoos (2022-2025) is a Japanese animated romantic comedy series produced by Shin-Ei Animation and aired across HTB, TV Asahi and a network of regional stations. Sixteen-year-old second-year student Nagi Umino, a super-studier at Megurogawa Academy, is caught in a hospital mix-up that left him switched at birth. On his way to a dinner meeting his birth parents, he crosses paths with the brash, outspoken Erika Amano (voiced by Akari Kito), who recruits him as a fake boyfriend because she never wants to marry. The engine of the show is the gap between the pretend arrangement and the real feelings that grow beneath it, as the two are pulled toward an engagement neither wants. Episodes unfold as slice of life school stories, with classmates and family members adding comic friction and a rival romantic thread. The show spans two seasons and thirty-six episodes, with a light, breezy, sincere tone and warm family comedy. Set in a contemporary Japanese high school and its surrounding neighborhood, it suits viewers who enjoy a gentle school romcom. Fans of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, Rent-a-Girlfriend and My Dress-Up Darling will find resonance here.
