## Synopsis

How I Met Your Father (2022-2023) is an American romantic sitcom created by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger for Hulu. Hilary Duff plays Sophie Tompkins, a Manhattan-adjacent woman in her twenties who narrates the story of how she met her son's father, while Chris Lowell plays Jesse Walker, one of the men she circles in the story. Francia Raísa, Suraj Sharma and Tom Ainsley fill out her close-knit circle of friends, and Kim Cattrall appears as an older Sophie in the frame story. The engine of the series is simple and relatable: each episode follows the friends as they swipe, date, misread signals and regroup over drinks, trying to figure out what they want from life and love in an age of dating apps and endless options. The show is structured as a single continuing comedy with a retrospective frame, with thirty episodes across two seasons before it was canceled. It is set in 2021 in an American city, with a near-future frame, and its tone is breezy, witty and warm, with a comfort-viewing charm. Fans of How I Met Your Mother, Friends and Younger will find resonance in its romantic banter, close friendship and modern dating anxieties.
