## Synopsis

The Rising (2022) is a British supernatural mystery series created by Sanne Nuyens and Bert Van Dael for Sky Max, an adaptation of the Belgian mystery Beau Séjour. Clara Rugaard plays Neve Kelly, a young woman who finds herself dead and stuck in limbo, determined to learn who killed her. Matthew McNulty stars as Tom Rees, and Emily Taaffe as Maria Kelly, her mother, anchors the family side of the story, while Nicholas Gleaves, William Ash and Solly McLeod play members of the Wyatt family whose secrets surface as the investigation moves forward. Rebecca Root appears as DS Diana Aird, the detective working the case. Across a single eight-episode season of roughly forty-four minutes each, the engine is simple: each episode peels back another layer of suspicion, pointing fingers at neighbours, friends and relatives, while Neve pushes for the truth from the in-between. Set in the English Lake District, the show pairs its breathtaking, rain-soaked landscapes with a young cast and a haunting, melancholic tone. Fans of The Killing, The Lovely Bones and Broadchurch will find resonance in its blend of grief, suspicion and small community secrets, with a mystery that stays emotionally grounded even as its premise bends toward the supernatural.
