## Synopsis

Poltergeist: The Legacy (1996-1999) is a Canadian-American supernatural horror series created by Richard Barton Lewis and broadcast on Showtime. The series follows Derek Rayne (Derek de Lint), a doctor of philosophy who leads a secret society known as the Legacy, alongside fellow members Rachel Corrigan (Helen Shaver), a physician, and Nick Boyle (Martin Cummins). Their working life is a steady pursuit of occult artifacts and paranormal phenomena that threaten ordinary people, with each episode built around a new investigation into a haunting, a cursed object or a supernatural intrusion. Across four seasons of roughly twenty-two episodes each, the group moves through an ongoing campaign against hidden forces, and the mythology gradually deepens around their shared mission. The tone leans gothic and eerie, with a sense of dread drawn from old houses, relics and unseen menace, balanced by the camaraderie of a small team of specialists. Viewers who enjoy The X-Files, Friday the 13th: The Series and Warehouse 13 will find the same blend of case-based scares and a covert protective order. Set in the late twentieth century, the show keeps its focus on the Legacy's campaign rather than on any single location, making it a cult-era genre piece for fans of 1990s paranormal television.
