## Synopsis

Maharani is an Indian political drama series created by Subhash Kapoor for SonyLIV, running four seasons from 2021 to 2025. Set in 1990s Bihar, it follows Rani Bharti (Huma Qureshi), an illiterate housewife whose husband Bheem Singh Bharti names her chief minister of the state when he can no longer hold the post. Surrounded by seasoned politicians, bureaucrats and power brokers who view her as a puppet, she must learn the machinery of government while fending off rivals who want her removed. Bheema Bharti (Sohum Shah) and Parvez Aalam (Inaamulhaq) move through the scheming around her, and each season is built from backroom negotiations, caste alliances, police pressure and political betrayals. The show is a patient, character-driven saga rather than a case-of-the-week format, with a tense, darkly comic and quietly defiant register. Its atmosphere is steeped in the dusty corridors and factional intrigue of a provincial capital. Fans of House of Cards, Gangs of Wasseypur and Sacred Games will find resonance in its layered political maneuvering and its portrait of power rooted in caste and local loyalty.
