## Synopsis

Sophie: A Murder in West Cork (2021) is a British true crime documentary miniseries created for Netflix. Spread across three roughly hour-long episodes, it follows a shocking murder in rural Ireland and the increasingly convoluted quest for justice that unfolds over decades and crosses national borders. Rather than dramatized reenactment, the series is built from investigative footage, interviews, and records, letting the tangled trail of leads, competing accounts, and dead ends carry the momentum. Viewers follow the investigators, the community of a small rural corner of County Cork, and the people who refuse to let the case go cold. The atmosphere is somber, unsettling, and patient, with long stretches of quiet interviews punctuated by the grim weight of the crime itself. Its unresolved, morally weighty texture will appeal to fans of The Jinx, Making a Murderer, and The Staircase, who want a true crime story that prizes complexity and doubt over tidy answers. It works well as a single focused binge for anyone drawn to investigative documentaries about real unsolved cases.
