## Synopsis

Don't Call It Mystery (2022) is a Japanese television mystery drama created by Hiroaki Matsuyama and Tomoko Aizawa for Fuji TV and FOD, adapted from a popular manga. University student Kuno Totono (Masaki Suda) is a young man who questions everything society takes for granted and builds his own theories from a wide, idiosyncratic store of knowledge. When a schoolmate is murdered in a park near campus, police bring him in for questioning, and Totono begins a verbal chess match with the detectives, drifting off topic and pointing out their contradictions. He even reads one officer's private troubles and offers unsolicited advice, yet his fingerprints turn up on the murder weapon, leaving him under suspicion. The engine of the series is his stubborn curiosity set against an investigation that keeps circling back to him. Across a single twelve-episode season, each hour balances a fresh crime with his digressive commentary on human nature and everyday values. Set in contemporary Japan, the show moves at a measured pace with a gentle, contemplative mood. Viewers who enjoy Monk, Sherlock and Columbo will find the same pleasure in puzzle solving through conversation and character.
