## Synopsis

Surface (2022-2025) is an American streaming drama mystery series created by Veronica West for Apple TV. Gugu Mbatha-Raw plays Sophie Ellis, a San Francisco woman whose life looks picture-perfect until a traumatic head injury leaves her with severe memory loss. Oliver Jackson-Cohen plays James Ellis, her husband, while Stephan James, Ari Graynor and Phil Dunster appear among the principal supporting cast. As Sophie tries to rebuild her past with help from her husband and friends, she begins to question the truth behind the life she thought she knew. The engine of the show is her private investigation into her own memories, where every reassuring detail invites doubt and every relationship may hide something. Across two seasons of eight episodes each, the story unfolds as a serialized mystery with domestic dread, glossy affluent settings and an uneasy emotional register. Fans of Big Little Lies, Gone Girl and The Affair will find resonance in its polished surfaces, marital suspicion and the unsettling idea that memory itself cannot be trusted. The series was canceled after its second season, leaving its central mystery open.
