## Synopsis

Happy Tree Friends is an American adult animated comedy created by Kenn Navarro, Rhode Montijo and Aubrey Ankrum for the web and Mondo Media. Its drawing is deliberately simple and cuddly, populated by forest animals who seem harmless at first glance. Each short episode follows these characters through a chain of accidental mishaps that build toward bloodshed, dismemberment or death. The comedy comes from the cruel timing of the cute-versus-grotesque contrast, which keeps viewers laughing and wincing in the same breath. The series runs as a long-running sequence of brief installments rather than a continuing drama, so each episode resets with fresh misfortune. Its emotional register is sardonic, shocking and darkly playful, with a gleeful disregard for its characters' welfare. Viewers who know Itchy & Scratchy, Ren & Stimpy or Invader Zim will recognize the appeal of cartoon violence wrapped in childlike charm. It suits those who enjoy transgressive humor and can take a steady diet of gore played for laughs.
