## Synopsis

Heirs to the Land (2022) is a Spanish historical drama series created by Rodolf Sirera for Netflix. Yon González plays Hugo Llor, a resourceful young man who works to make a name for himself in 14th-century Barcelona while keeping a vow he made to the Estanyol family. Bruna Cusí plays Arsenda, and Elena Rivera plays Caterina Llor, while Jesús Carroza, Maria Rodríguez Soto and Juli Fàbregas round out the principal cast. The engine of the story is ambition pressed against obligation: a striver must build a future in a crowded medieval city while his promise binds him to a powerful family and its rivalries. Each of its eight episodes of roughly fifty minutes unfolds as a continuing narrative, with social climbing, shifting alliances and the weight of a sworn word driving the plot forward. The series is set in a dense, labyrinthine Barcelona of the fourteenth century, with its guild workshops, noble houses and crowded streets rendered in a grounded way. Its tone is earnest and tense, with a melancholic undercurrent of loyalty tested by hardship. Adapted from a novel, it is a Spanish-language production in the tradition of European period dramas, and fans of Game of Thrones and The Last Kingdom will find resonance in its blend of court intrigue and personal honour.
