## Synopsis

Baki Hanma (2021-2023) is a Japanese animated martial arts series created as an original net animation for Netflix, adapted from the manga and animated by TMS Entertainment. Its protagonist, the teenage fighter Baki Hanma, voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki, enters Arizona State Prison to take on the notorious inmate known as Mr. Unchained, seeking the strength he needs to surpass his towering father Yujiro Hanma, voiced by Akio Otsuka. Narration from Toru Furuya frames the bouts while Rikiya Koyama voices Sea King Retsu and Takeshi Kusao voices Pickle, a cast of grappling eccentrics who keep the story orbiting the prison and its brutal tournaments. Each episode is built from extended combat sequences in which bodies are pushed past plausible limits, and the drama lies in escalating training, rivalry and bloodied confrontation rather than in any single case. Across two seasons and thirty-nine episodes the series stays a single continuing story. Its register is intense, bombastic and gleefully excessive, blending father son rivalry with absurd physical spectacle. Fans of Baki the Grappler, Hokuto no Ken and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure will find resonance in its hyperbolic brawling and muscular mythology. The series is mature, violent and loud, suited to viewers who enjoy adult animated action.
