## Synopsis

New Amsterdam is an American network drama that aired on FOX in 2008 and was canceled after a single eight-episode season. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau stars as John Amsterdam, a brilliant, mysterious and reckless New York homicide detective who is immortal, the result of a spell cast by a Native girl he saved during a massacre in 1642. Each hour he works murder cases alongside partner Eva Marquez (Zuleikha Robinson) and the medical examiner Dr. Sara Dillane (Alexie Gilmore), while searching for the one true love that will allow him to age again. The engine is a case-of-the-week procedural that keeps circling back to his long, lonely wait for romance, his struggle with sobriety, and the weight of memory across centuries. The series has a sentimental, romantic, and melancholic register, with dark urban crime scenes balanced by tender character moments. Its single season offers a concentrated look at a man who has seen too much. Fans of Forever, Moonlight and Bones will find resonance in its blend of crime investigation, supernatural premise and romantic yearning.
