## Synopsis

Ein Herz und eine Seele (1973-1976) is a German national-television sitcom created by Wolfgang Menge, adapted from the British series Till Death Us Do Part. Its protagonist is Alfred Tetzlaff, played by Heinz Schubert, a loud, opinionated working class father whose prejudices and political rants collide with the household around him. Elisabeth Wiedemann plays his long-suffering wife Else, while Hildegard Krekel and Diether Krebs play Rita and Michael Graf, the younger couple whose modern outlook sets off constant friction. The engine of each episode is simple: a dinner table, a visiting neighbor, or a small domestic dispute escalates into a verbal duel in which Alfred refuses to yield an inch. The series runs to two seasons and twenty-five episodes, with the revival in 1976 adding four more. Its tone is sharp, sardonic and often uncomfortable, a satire of postwar German attitudes toward class, politics and generational change. Fans of Till Death Us Do Part, All in the Family and Roseanne will find resonance in its blunt, confrontational family comedy. Its New Year's Eve and carnival episodes remain cherished tradition on German television.
