## Synopsis

The Longest Promise (2023) is a Chinese xianxia fantasy romance series produced for Tencent Video and comprising a single forty-episode season. Xiao Zhan plays Shi Ying, a royal prince banished to Jiu Yi Mountain after the queen frames him, and Ren Min plays Zhu Yan, a princess of the Chi Yi Tribe who becomes his disciple. Their teacher and student bond keeps a slowly growing attraction unspoken while the mountain training and court politics press in on them. Fate sets the pair on opposing sides of a political struggle where the stakes are life and death, so their loyalties and feelings collide episode after episode. Fang Yilun, Wang Churan and Li Mingde round out a large cast of rivals, allies and sect figures. Set in the fictional Kong Sang Continent, the story moves through cultivation training, shifting alliances and battles for power. The tone is wistful and romantic, with a yearning, restrained emotional register and a sweeping fantasy atmosphere. Its themes are duty against desire and loyalty to a homeland. Fans of Eternal Love and Love Between Fairy and Devil will find similar xianxia romance resonance here.
