## Synopsis

Light the Night (2021-2022) is a Taiwanese television drama series created by Lin Shao-chien, Hong Li-yen and Du Zheng-zhe for Netflix. Set in the red light district of 1980s Taipei, it follows the women who work at a popular Japanese night club, with Ruby Lin as Lo Yu-nung, known as Rose, at the center of a shifting circle of colleagues. Tony Yang Yo-Ning plays Pan Wen-cheng, Cheryl Yang plays Su Ching-yi, known as Sue, and Esther Liu plays Li Shu-hua, known as Hana, among the principal figures whose loyalties and rivalries drive the story. The engine of the series is the daily churn of the club, where money, status and desire pull each woman in different directions and every season of the story is built from overlapping romances, quarrels and reconciliations. Across one season of twenty-four episodes, the show moves through jealousy, heartbreak and fragile friendship, while the nightlife underworld brings a steady undercurrent of corruption and danger. Its tone is melancholic and intimate, with a slice of life texture that gives way to moments of dark, bittersweet unease. Viewers who enjoy the nightlife melancholy of The Eddy or the vice-tinged period crime of Narcos will find a kindred mood here, a portrait of ambition and sisterhood under pressure rather than a conventional police story.
