## Synopsis

Who Is the Murderer (2021) is a Chinese crime mystery series produced for iQiyi, a one-season run of sixteen forty-minute episodes. Zhao Liying plays Shen Yu, and Xiao Yang plays Leng Xiao Bing, a guilt-ridden cop and a determined intern who reunite sixteen years after a botched arrest left a serial killer at large. Dong Zijian, Wang Maolei and Li Guangfu fill out the principal cast as figures tied to the old case. Their engine is a stubborn effort to reopen the failed investigation, sift old files and buried secrets, and track down the real murderer before the trail goes completely cold. Each episode peels back another layer of the past, so the sixteen-episode arc works as one continuing mystery rather than a case of the week. The story moves through present-day China, with the earlier arrest failure hanging over every interview and archive search. The mood is tense, sombre and cerebral, built on suspicion, regret and slow reveals. Fans of Mindhunter, The Killing and Tiger Cub Hunters will find resonance in its procedural patience and its interest in how a single failure haunts those who made it.
