## Synopsis

Dough (2021) is a Swedish crime drama miniseries created by Levan Akin and Mattias J. Skoglund for SVT1. Helena af Sandeberg plays Malou, a woman in a fancy Stockholm suburb whose polished life is coming apart, who stumbles across 47 million SEK from a robbery and opens a bakery to launder it. Bianca Kronlöf plays Liana, an indebted single mother abandoned when her ex is arrested for that same heist, who is pulled unwillingly into the hunt for the money. Johan Hedenberg, Eva Melander and Erik Bolin fill out the wider circle of people drawn into the scramble. The engine of the story is the slow tightening of pressure: each concealment costs more, and every attempt to keep up appearances at home and in the shop drags the two women closer together and further from safety. The eight-episode limited series is one continuing story, built on hour-long episodes that ratchet tension through domestic and commercial spaces rather than set-piece action. Its tone is tense, bleak and quietly observant, with a sharp eye on class anxiety and the fragile performance of middle-class respectability. Fans of Breaking Bad, Fargo and the Scandinavian crime tradition of Borgen will find resonance in its morally compromised characters and its mix of crime and character drama, set in a present-day Sweden.
