## Synopsis

Monsters Inside: The 24 Faces of Billy Milligan (2021) is a Netflix documentary true crime limited series created by Olivier Megaton and Brice Lambert. Across four hour-long episodes, it revisits the late 1970s case of an accused serial rapist who insisted that multiple personalities controlled his behavior, setting off a legal fight that gripped the American public. The engine of the story is the central question of criminal responsibility: whether a defendant can be both guilty and innocent, and who in his fractured mind should answer for the crimes. The series assembles testimony from figures who were involved in the case, including Billy's sister and brother, his friends and childhood acquaintances, the psychiatrist and psychologist who evaluated him, and the prosecutors and attorneys who fought over the verdict. Its shape is a single four-episode arc, moving through the investigation, the courtroom and the psychiatric debate in sequence. The tone is sober and investigative, with an unsettling undercurrent of dread as the case grows stranger. Set in 1970s America, it sits in the tradition of American true crime docuseries. Fans of The Jinx, Making a Murderer and Mindhunter will find resonance in its blend of criminal investigation, psychiatric scrutiny and unresolved moral questions.
