## Synopsis

Maya and the Three (2021) is a Mexican animated fantasy miniseries created by Jorge R. Gutierrez for Netflix. Princess Maya, voiced by Zoe Saldaña, is a spirited warrior who sets out to fulfill an ancient prophecy and keep humanity from the wrath of vengeful gods. Along the way she travels with a band of companions, including the comic sidekicks voiced by Diego Luna as Zatz and Gabriel Iglesias as Piccu, while Gael García Bernal voices the Jaguar Brothers and Alfred Molina voices Lord Mictlan. Jorge R. Gutierrez also voices King Teca, with Sandra Equihua as Queen Teca. The nine-episode run is a single continuing quest rather than a case-of-the-week format, so each episode pushes the prophecy forward through battles, dangers, and escapes. Drawing on Mesoamerican legend and vivid 3D animation, the series balances playful humor with mythic spectacle and a warm, adventurous spirit. Its setting is an invented legendary kingdom rather than a real historical period, giving the story the feel of a folk tale told with bold color and kinetic action. Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Book of Life, and The Prince of Egypt will find resonance in its mix of heroic destiny, lively camaraderie, and family-friendly myth.
