## Synopsis

Becoming Karl Lagerfeld (2024) is a French prestige biographical drama miniseries created by Isaure Pisani-Ferry, Jennifer Have and Raphaëlle Bacqué for Disney+. Daniel Brühl plays the ambitious designer Karl Lagerfeld, an unknown ready-to-wear figure in 1972 whose life turns when he meets Théodore Pellerin's seductive, ambitious dandy Jacques de Bascher. Alex Lutz plays Pierre Bergé, and Arnaud Valois plays Yves Saint Laurent, anchoring the orbit of the fashion houses and the rivalries and alliances that come with them. The engine of the story is a young man's hunger for recognition set against the cutthroat politics of Paris couture, with each episode moving through studio work, social circles and the personal bonds that shape a career. Told as a single six-episode limited series of roughly forty-four minutes each, it reads as a sumptuous period portrait of 1970s Paris, rich in glamour, velvet, and nightlife. Its tone is sensual, glossy and melancholic, with an undercurrent of betrayal and longing. Fans of House of Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent will find resonance in its blend of designer biography, queer romance and high fashion decadence.
