## Synopsis

Rebus (2000-2007) is a British crime drama series created by Ian Rankin for ITV1, adapted from his novels. Ken Stott plays Inspector John Rebus, a dogged Edinburgh detective whose unorthodox methods earn him the wrath of his superiors, and Claire Price plays his partner, DS Siobhan Clarke, who must keep pace with him as he circumvents the law to enforce it. The engine of each feature-length episode is a murder case that pulls Rebus through the city's pubs, tenements and back rooms, where his personal demons and frayed loyalties complicate every lead. The format is a short run of two-hour investigations across four seasons, with a serialized undercurrent in the friction between Rebus and his bosses. Set in contemporary Edinburgh, the series carries a bleak, rain-soaked atmosphere, a mood of moral unease, and a strong sense of Scottish place. Fans of Wallander, Luther and Line of Duty will find resonance in its brooding tone and its compromised lawman at the centre of the story.
