## Synopsis

Alegrijes y Rebujos (2003-2004) is a Mexican family fantasy telenovela created by Palmira Olguín for Las Estrellas, produced by Televisa. Its single season of 145 episodes follows Sofía Domínguez (Jacqueline Bracamontes as Angélica Rivas Márquez is among the principal cast), a motherless girl who lives with her doctor father Antonio Domínguez (Miguel de León) while her stepmother Mercedes (Eugenia Cauduro) and younger brother Esteban scheme to make her look bad. Sofía and her neighborhood friends dare to enter the haunted mansion on Villa Luz street, where a former servant named Chon (Salvador Sánchez) lives, and from there they embark on adventures to stop Helga, the Great Witch (Rosa María Bianchi), whose relentless pursuit is driven by a prophecy that Sofía must fulfill. Each episode mixes playful childhood escapades with melodramatic household conflict, sustained across the whole run by the looming threat of the witch. The tone is earnest, whimsical and sometimes tense, with a cozy, colorful kids' fantasy feel. Fans of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Chiquititas and Cuna de lobos will find resonance in its blend of witchcraft, youthful heroism and soapy family drama.
