## Synopsis

Flash Gordon (1979-1982) is a American animated science fiction adventure series created by Alex Raymond and produced by Filmation Associates for NBC. Flash Gordon, voiced by Robert Ridgely, travels with companions Dale Arden (Diane Pershing) and scientist Dr. Hans Zarkov, voiced by Alan Oppenheimer, to the distant planet Mongo. There they are forced into battle by the tyrant Ming the Merciless, also voiced by Alan Oppenheimer, whose daughter Princess Aura (Melendy Britt) and army of Metal Men enforce his rule. The engine of each episode is the heroes' effort to build an alliance among the planet's peoples, beginning with King Thun, leader of the Lion People, Prince Barin of Arboria and King Vultan of the Hawkmen. The show runs two seasons of sixteen episodes each, a serialized campaign told in brisk half-hour chapters. Its look is colorful Saturday morning animation, and its tone is earnest, pulpy and fun, carrying the swashbuckling spirit of the 1930s movie serials. Fans of Star Blazers, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and Star Trek: The Animated Series will find resonance in its planetary adventure and heroic camaraderie.
