## Synopsis

A Different World (2026) is a US streaming comedy-drama series created by Felicia Pride for Netflix, a revival-minded spin on the campus tradition of the historically black college sitcom. Maleah Joi Moon plays freshman Deborah Wayne, who enters her first year at Hillman, her parents' HBCU alma mater, and struggles to step out from under their long shadow. Her engine is the push to build a reputation of her own, balanced against the pull of parties, friendships, and romance with classmates such as Rashida (Alijah Kai), Shaquille (Cornell Young IV), and Amir (Jordan Aaron Hall). Each episode is built from dorm life, classroom friction, campus organizing, and the small social dramas that define a first year, with the stakes rising across a single season of ten episodes. Veteran performers including Jasmine Guy and Debbie Allen return to the Hillman world and add a sense of inheritance to the new generation's story. The tone is buoyant and warm, with comic energy grounded in real emotional stakes about belonging and ambition. Fans of the original A Different World, The Cosby Show, and Grownish will find familiar resonance in its campus camaraderie and young Black characters navigating identity and independence.
