## Synopsis

Bad Influencer (2025) is a South African crime drama created by Kudi Maradzika for Netflix. Its single season of seven 45-minute episodes follows BK (Jo-anne Reyneke), a single mother who secretly makes luxury handbag counterfeits to climb out of debt. Her scheme takes a turn when she teams up with Pinky (Cindy Mahlangu), a self-obsessed social media influencer, and the two hustle to move their product through the glossy world of online fame. Supporting characters including Themba (Thapelo Mokoena), Leo (Mpilo Shabalala), Bheki (Modise Motaung) and Naomi (Zozibini Tunzi) widen the circle of people who become entangled in the operation. Each episode pushes the pair deeper into risky deals, tense confrontations and the constant pressure of keeping up appearances while money runs short. The tone is intense and fast-moving, with a restless energy that blends the hustle of township-adjacent urban life with the sheen of influencer culture. Fans of Breaking Bad, Fleabag and Tsotsi will find resonance in its portrait of ordinary desperation, moral compromise and the lengths people go to stay afloat in a city that rewards appearances.
