## Synopsis

Song of the Samurai - Chapter: Youthful Days in Edo (2026) is a Japanese live-action jidaigeki miniseries created for TBS and adapted from a manga. Across two feature-length episodes of roughly ninety-seven minutes each, it follows street brawler Toshizo Hijikata (Yuki Yamada) as he finds a new kind of family among Isami Kondo (Nobuyuki Suzuki) and Soji Okita (Kanata Hosoda), comrades who join the Shinsengumi, the armed force that defended Kyoto during the final years of the shogunate. Their drive to belong and to hold to their ideals collides with rival factions, betrayal, illness, and the growing violence of war. The engine is simple and personal: young men testing loyalty against the pressures of a collapsing order. Set in late Edo-period Kyoto, the story moves through spectacular swordplay and street-level brawling while grounding its emotions in intimate friendships. The tone is intense, passionate, and melancholic, with a coming-of-age heartbreak running beneath the action. Fans of Rurouni Kenshin and Gintama will find resonance here, along with those who enjoy historical taiga dramas about Japan's final samurai era.
