## Synopsis

The Perfect Lie (2026) is a Dutch scripted drama series created by Dorien Goertzen for Netflix, adapted from the novel De Eetclub. Its story follows four affluent couples whose monthly dinner club has long looked like a model of friendship. When one of their own dies in a house fire, the surviving members are forced to re-examine everything they thought they knew about one another. Karen van der Made (Loes Haverkort) and Ivo Smit (Remko Vrijdag) sit at the centre of a web that also includes Babette Struyck (Noortje Herlaar), Evert Struyck (Edwin Jonker) and Hanneke Lemstra (Rifka Lodeizen). The engine of the series is the slow unravelling of loyalties, as each couple's private history resurfaces in conversations, confrontations and quiet lies told over dinner tables and in the aftermath of the blaze. The season runs seven episodes of roughly fifty minutes each, a single continuing story rather than a case of the week. Set in a contemporary Dutch milieu of comfortable homes and social ambition, the show is intimate, soapy and brooding, with the atmosphere of a dinner party where everyone is listening too closely. Fans of Big Little Lies, The Undoing and Desperate Housewives will find resonance in its polished surfaces and sharpening suspicion.
