## Synopsis

My Brilliant Career (2026) is an Australian period drama miniseries created by Liz Doran for Netflix, adapted from the novel or book of the same name. The six-episode limited series follows restless, razor-sharp 17-year-old Sybylla Melvyn (Philippa Northeast), who is dead set on writing her own story in an era that expects her to find a man and settle down. Her engine is the collision between her literary ambition and the rigid expectations of family and community, and each episode is built around the small domestic frictions of farm life and the suitors, relatives and household pressures that press in on her. Christopher Chung plays Harry Beecham, Genevieve O'Reilly plays Helen Bell, and Anna Chancellor plays Mrs. Bossier, each a figure shaping the choices in front of her. The tone is spirited and sharp-witted, with an undercurrent of frustration and quiet defiance, and the feminist core of the story gives it a bright, determined edge. Fans of Anne with an E, Little Women and Picnic at Hanging Rock will find resonance in its period detail, its young heroine and its refusal to let convention decide her future.
