## Synopsis

The Adventures of Prince Florisel (1981) is a Soviet television miniseries created for Central Television USSR, produced by Lenfilm, and adapted in tone from a classic adventure tale. Across three episodes of roughly sixty-nine minutes each, the story follows an all-powerful and wealthy Bavarian prince, played by Oleg Dal, who grows restless with boredom and joins the Club of Suicide. Cast members Donatas Banionis, Igor Yankovsky and Lyubov Polishchuk round out the principal ensemble. Once inside, he sets out to unmask the mastermind criminal behind the society and vows to stop him by any means necessary after several servants die. The engine is a cat-and-mouse chase: the prince tracks a dreaded club president who makes a dashing escape, and the story pivots into a second investigation as he uncovers yet another crime. The approach is mostly comical, with witty dialogue, elegant period costume and a playful sense of adventure. Viewers who enjoy gentleman sleuths and light caper plots will find resonance with Sherlock Holmes and The Pink Panther. The overall register is breezy and ironic, with an undercurrent of menace that gives the mysteries their bite and keeps each episode moving briskly toward its conclusion.
