## Synopsis

The Green Hornet (1940) is a United States broadcast crime adventure serial that aired as a single season of thirteen short chapters. Newspaper publisher Britt Reid, who runs The Sentinel, secretly dons a mask as the Green Hornet, with his valet and inventor Kato handling gadgets and backup at his side. Each chapter pushes the pair into a new underworld racket, and their investigations keep colliding with the henchmen of The Chief, a hidden mastermind who directs a twelve-member criminal syndicate from the shadows. The engine is cat and mouse: the heroes chase the unseen boss through a run of rackets while the henchmen keep turning up as obstacles. Its structure is a classic serial, with each short installment ending on a cliffhanger that pulls the audience to the next. The mood is brisk, earnest and adventurous, with the stylized charm of early American radio-era storytelling and a sense of clean-cut good guys against shadowy gangsters. Fans of Batman (1943), The Adventures of Superman and Dick Tracy will find resonance in its masked vigilante premise, serialized peril and golden age pulp energy.
