## Synopsis

Affinity (2026) is a Chinese web drama created for Youku, blending a futuristic romance with sci-fi and fantasy elements in a single 40-episode run. Bioengineering student Wu Nongyu (Fang Jin) is drawn into a mysterious genetic attraction with Xie Xinxu, a sociopath played by Cui Yuxin, who also appears as Gu Yanqing. Wu Siyuan (Wang Yijun) and Li Xiang (Gao Weiman) add personal entanglements, while Lin Juan (Wu Fei) and Mr. Ding (Ding Ming) recur in the wider cast. The engine of the story is a race against time: the leads must confront their pasts and find a way to break the powerful bond before it takes control of their lives. Episodes unfold as a serialized arc in which each step of the relationship tests trust, consent, and the possibility of redemption. Set in 2051, the series imagines a near-future society shaped by genetic engineering, with a clinical, pressured atmosphere. The tone mixes intense, melodramatic romance with moments of tenderness and unease, and fans of forced proximity romance and slow burn dramas will find resonance in its emotional volatility. Viewers should expect a heavy romantic focus and frank depictions of desire. Its single season offers a complete arc for those drawn to genre romance with a speculative edge.
