## Synopsis

Tadas Blinda (1972) is a Soviet-era Lithuanian national-television historical drama miniseries created for Lithuanian Film Studio, made in four episodes of roughly 38 minutes each. Vytautas Tomkus plays the title character, a legendary peasant leader of nineteenth century Lithuania, alongside Vaiva Mainelytė as Morta, Algis Matulionis as his brother, and Stasys Radzevičius as Kuleshus. Blinda's engine is simple and rooted in community: he gathers serfs who are newly freed yet still squeezed by Polish landlords and the Russian imperial administration, and he answers their oppression with open defiance and sharp mockery. Each episode moves through village confrontations, tense negotiations with estate owners, and small acts of rebellion that build toward a larger struggle. The story is told in a straightforward, linear form with a folk-tale sensibility. The tone mixes heroic earnestness with ridicule of the powerful, giving the drama a rousing, defiant energy. Fans of Robin Hood, the 1973 animated outlaw classic, and the Ukrainian Cossack epic Taras Bulba will find resonance in its peasant hero who stands against lords and empire. Its appeal lies in the vivid portrait of a folk legend rather than in spectacle, making it a compact, distinctive piece of Baltic historical storytelling.
