## Synopsis

Chainsmoker Cat (2026) is a Japanese adult animated comedy series produced by Bibury Animation Studios and aired on TOKYO MX, adapted from a manga. Catgirl Yani (voiced by Yuko Natsuyoshi) struggles to pay her rent and hold down a job while feeding a stubborn cigarette habit in a cluttered, trashed house in contemporary Tokyo. Her engine is simple and relatable: keep the apartment, keep the paycheck, keep the smoke going, while the concerned friends around her, including fellow catgirls voiced by Misato Matsuoka and Ayaka Shimizu, press her to rethink her future. Each of the twelve twenty-four minute episodes unspools as a run of small domestic misadventures, awkward day jobs, and izakaya nights, with the landlord and quirky roommates adding friction. The series is a single completed season, a tidy short run of brisk, self-contained vignettes that build into one continuing arc. Its tone is wry, deadpan, and sardonic, with a melancholic undercurrent of urban poverty and addiction. Fans of Bojack Horseman and the adult slice of life of Mononoke will find resonance here, in a fantasy comedy that treats vice and precarity with dry affection.
