## Synopsis

Gyeongseong Creature (2023-2024) is a South Korean period horror series created by Kang Eun-kyung for Netflix. Set in 1945 Seoul under Japanese colonial rule, it follows an entrepreneur and a sleuth who must fight for survival when a monster born out of human greed begins stalking the city. Park Seo-jun plays Jang Tae-sang and Han So-hee plays Yoon Chae-ok, with Choi Young-jun as Kato and Kim Hae-sook as Nawol-daek rounding out the principal cast. The engine of the series is a cat-and-mouse hunt through hospitals, backrooms and grimy streets, where each episode pairs creature peril with investigation into the experiments that made the monster. The show spans two seasons and seventeen episodes, one continuing story rather than a case-of-the-week format. Its tone is grim and atmospheric, with a dread-filled, bleak sense of a city where people are rarely safe from those in power. Themes of imperialism, exploitation and moral compromise run through the story. Fans of Kingdom, Train to Busan and Mr. Sunshine will find resonance in its blend of creature horror, survival drama and Korean historical storytelling.
