## Synopsis

Song of the Bandits (2023) is a South Korean period action drama and western-style miniseries created by Han Jung-hoon and Hwang Joon-hyuk for Netflix. Across nine episodes of roughly fifty-eight minutes each, the story follows bandit fighters in the lawless Gando borderland, where Lee Yun (Kim Nam-gil) leads a fierce band willing to risk everything to defend their homeland and the people they love. Nam Hee-shin (Seohyun) and Choi Choong-su (Yoo Jae-myung) are among the principal figures whose loyalties and survival are tested as rival gangs and colonial forces press in. Each episode is built from rugged chases, standoffs, and brutal close-quarters combat set against wide frontier landscapes, with the momentum driven by the constant pressure of occupation and betrayal. The mood is gritty, propulsive, and mournful, with a sense of sacrifice running beneath the action. Fans of Korean period epics such as Mr. Sunshine and of frontier outlaw sagas like The Good, the Bad, the Weird will find resonance in its blend of rebel stand-offs, historical weight, and kinetic set pieces. A single completed season makes it a self-contained limited series.
