## Synopsis

Shining Vale (2022-2023) is an American dark comedy horror series created by Jeff Astrof and Sharon Horgan for STARZ. Courteney Cox plays Patricia "Pat" Phelps, a suburban mother who suspects she is either depressed or possessed, while Greg Kinnear plays her husband Terry, and Gus Birney and Dylan Gage play their children, who are moving with them from the city into a small town. The family has bought a house where terrible atrocities once took place, yet no one else seems to notice what Pat senses. The engine of the show is Pat's struggle to convince her household that something is wrong while the ordinary strains of a dysfunctional family pile up around her. Mira Sorvino, Merrin Dungey and Judith Light appear as neighbors and townspeople whose own secrets and social pressures complicate the picture. The series runs across two seasons of eight episodes each, a single continuing story of roughly half-hour episodes that cancellation left unfinished. Its register mixes the bleak with the absurd, so it is both uneasy and wickedly funny, with a supernatural horror thread threaded through relentlessly sardonic domestic comedy. Fans of The Haunting of Hill House, Weeds and The Haunting will find resonance in its blend of family unraveling and haunted-house dread.
