## Synopsis

The Library (1990) is a British sketch-based comedy series starring Rowan Atkinson as the silent, bumbling title character Mr. Bean, produced for British television as a single episode. Set in a hushed rare book library, possibly modeled on the British Library, the episode follows Mr. Bean as he attempts a seemingly simple task: copying a page from a fragile tome with a pencil and crayon on tracing paper. A sneeze sends the tracing paper sliding away, and he unknowingly begins shading directly onto the precious book instead. Each attempted fix, from erasing to correction fluid, compounds the damage until he tears out pages and then cuts into more with a boxcutter he fails to watch. The engine is pure escalation: a small error metastasizing through one careless gesture after another, with no dialogue to explain himself. Shot in a light, brisk style, it delivers gentle, wordless slapstick with an endearingly oblivious protagonist. Fans of Mr. Bean, The Pink Panther and Benny Hill's physical gags will find the same comic innocence and escalating mishap. Its short runtime makes it an easy one-episode watch.
