## Synopsis

Dig Deeper: The Disappearance of Birgit Meier (2021) is a German true crime documentary miniseries created for Netflix. Across four hour-long episodes it follows Birgit Meier, who vanishes in 1989, and the brother who refuses to let her case fade. The engine of the series is his stubborn, almost obsessive campaign to pull together old files, revisit witnesses and push back against a police investigation that stumbles for years, making missteps that leave the trail cold. Each episode builds the record piece by piece, through interviews, archival material and the slow accumulation of doubt, so the viewer experiences the frustration of a case that keeps stalling. The tone is sober, heavy and quietly relentless, with a mood of unease and grief rather than sensational spectacle. Its structure is a single limited run, one continuing investigation told from start to finish. Fans of The Keepers, The Jinx and Making a Murderer will find resonance in its focus on family persistence, institutional failure and the unresolved fate of a missing person. Its setting is West Germany in the late 1980s, and its story is grounded in real events rather than dramatized fiction, which gives its quiet, unresolved ending a particular weight for viewers who came for the truth.
