## Synopsis

A Professor (2021-2025) is an Italian Rai 1 teen drama series created by Alessandro D'Alatri, adapted from the Catalan format Merlí. Alessandro Gassmann plays Dante Balestra, a charming, unconventional philosophy teacher who returns to Rome after years away to care for his son Simone (Nicolas Maupas). At Rome's Leonardo Da Vinci High School he takes on a class and teaches with provocative methods that quickly blur his professional authority and his private life. The engine of the series is the tension between his bond with students and his responsibilities as a father, sharpened when Anita (Claudia Pandolfi), a former flame and mother of Manuel (Damiano Gavino), the class's rebellious black sheep, reappears. Episodes are built from classroom debates, friendships, romances and family tangles, with the students' adolescent turmoil carried through a continuing storyline. Presented as a three-season run of twelve episodes each, the show mixes wit, warmth and melancholy in a sunlit urban setting, with a tone that is sincere, talky and emotionally intimate. Fans of Merlí, Dawson's Creek and Skins will find resonance in its blend of school life, youthful romance and an adult mentor at the center of the drama.
