## Synopsis

The Block (2003-present) is an Australian reality renovation competition created for Nine Network. Hosts Scott Cam and Shelley Craft guide rival couples who each take on a dwelling, renovating it under tight budgets and deadlines while judges Shaynna Blaze, Neale Whitaker and Darren Palmer assess their work and foreman Dan Reilly keeps the builds on track. The engine of every season is simple: each team wants the highest auction price for its finished home, and every decision about design, spending and time pressure tilts that race. Viewers see demolition, hammering, styling and the tense final weeks as each couple's house is measured against its rivals. The series runs as a long-running, ongoing run of seasons, with a fresh set of houses and contestants each time, so it works as a case-of-the-week format of renovation episodes. Its tone is brisk, competitive and cheerful, with rivalry and nerves shaping the mood. Fans of The Block UK, Grand Designs and Property Ladder will find similar appeal in its mix of home makeovers and property flipping. Its family-friendly rating and warm hosts make it an easy watch for home renovation enthusiasts and reality television fans alike.
