## Synopsis

Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction (1997-2002) is an American anthology mystery series broadcast on FOX and produced by Dick Clark Productions. Hosted by Jonathan Frakes, who appears in nearly every episode alongside James Brolin in the opening seasons, the show chronicles a run of strange, mysterious and seemingly incredible occurrences within each hour. Each segment is a self-contained dramatization featuring its own cast of ordinary people, such as a man stranded in a suddenly empty world or a family confronting an unsettling surveillance camera, so no character carries over from one story to the next. The engine of every installment is the puzzle itself: the viewer watches a tale unfold and must decide whether it actually happened or was fabricated by the writers. Four seasons and forty-five episodes of this case-of-the-week structure keep the format consistent, with a playful, eerie register that favors curiosity over dread. The verdict arrives only at the end, when the host reveals what was real. Fans of The Twilight Zone, The X-Files and Unsolved Mysteries will find the same blend of documentary framing, paranormal wonder and deliberate ambiguity.
