Audiences are mixed, finding the Swedish miniseries's sprawling vignettes charming in places but slow and lacking in strong character development.

## Synopsis

Anxious People (2021) is a Swedish dramedy miniseries created for Netflix, based on the novel by Fredrik Backman and produced by Salomonsson Agency and FLX. Across six half-hour episodes, a bank robber holds the visitors of an open house hostage and then disappears, leaving police baffled and suspicious of everyone in the room. The engine is a tight police hunt that keeps circling back to the strangers who were trapped together, each carrying private anxieties and quiet secrets. Alfred Svensson plays Jack, Dan Ekborg plays Jim, Leif Andrée plays Roger, Per Andersson plays Lennart, and Carla Sehn plays Julia, with the ensemble shifting between the captives and the investigators. Each episode unspools through a series of vignettes that move between dry humor and sorrow. Set in a contemporary Swedish town, the miniseries carries a wry, melancholic register, mixing deadpan comedy with an undercurrent of loneliness. Fans of Fargo, Big Little Lies and Lost will find resonance in its ensemble structure, its offbeat crime and its interest in ordinary people under pressure.
