## Synopsis

The Wasp (2021-2023) is a German dark comedy series created by Jan Berger and broadcast on Sky One and Sky. Florian Lukas plays Eddie Frotzke, a once-famous professional darts player who has lost his fame, his money and his wife, and whose physical condition has collapsed. He teams up with his old buddy Nobbe Zosch, played by Ulrich Noethen, a rusty former darts professional with a strong tendency toward alcohol. Together they try to find their way back into their lives and careers and prove that Eddie earned his old nickname. The engine of the show is a string of small, humiliating setbacks in pubs, sports halls and tournaments, each one undercutting the next attempt at a comeback. Its three seasons of six episodes each follow one continuing story rather than standalone cases, and the series was canceled after its third season. The tone is deadpan, bleak and melancholic, with comic cringe built from failure and friendship rather than slapstick. Its mood is wry and sad at once, with a focus on middle-aged loneliness and the stubborn pride of faded sportsmen. Fans of Eastbound and Down, Shameless and Derek will find a similar blend of sardonic humor and fragile dignity.
