## Synopsis

Sisi (2021-2024) is a German-language historical biography series created by Sven Bohse for RTL. Dominique Devenport plays Empress Elisabeth of Austria, the young Bavarian woman known as Sisi, opposite Jannik Schümann as Emperor Franz, with Désirée Nosbusch as the formidable Archduchess Sophie and Julia Stemberger as Duchess Ludovika among the principal figures of the court. Told from the perspective of her closest confidants, the four-season run of six episodes each follows a young woman navigating the rigid rules, rival factions and suffocating ceremony of the Habsburg court while trying to hold on to her own identity. Each season builds on the last through courtly rivalries, marriage politics, family loyalties and the personal cost of public duty. Set in nineteenth-century Austria-Hungary, the series moves through imperial palaces, estates and royal courts with a costume-drama polish. Its tone is intimate and candid, treating its historical subject as a modern, emotionally honest figure rather than a museum piece. Viewers who enjoy the royal intrigue of The Crown and the court dramas of Reign will find familiar pleasures here, along with a sharper focus on one woman's inner life against imperial pressure.
